1. When I call your office what information should I have available? Top
  Indicate if it is an emergency
A phone number where you can be reached
The horse’s name and owner’s name
The location of the horse
A brief description of the problem
Day and time the problem began
The horse’s temperature
Any treatments or medications that have been administered
 
2. What are the normal vital signs of a horse? Top
  **For an adult, resting horse during normal weather**

Temperature: 99° to 101°F

Pulse: 32 to 44 beats per minute

Respiration: 12 to 16 breaths per minute

Capillary Refill Time Of Mucous Membranes: Less than 2 seconds
The mucous membranes should be pale, pink and moist.
 
3. Should I have an equine first aid kit? Top
  Yes, we suggest every horse owner should have at least one first aid kit. If you travel with your horse frequently you should also keep a second in the trailer.
